Day 1.   Arrive Casablanca

When you arrive for your Morocco Culture and History Tour, you will find yourself in the fabled Casablanca, which has distinctive art deco architecture and is Morocco’s largest city and business center. 

Key Attractions:

• Hassan II Mosque: The mosque can welcome 105,000 worshipers and is filled with breathtaking mosaic work everywhere you look. 
• La Corniche:  this area along the Atlantic coastline is home to many luxurious hotels and restaurants. 
• Rick’s Cafe:  from the classic movie, ‘Casablanca,’ complete with live entertainment and an ambiance that will allow you to absorb the enchanting Moroccan magic represented in the movie. 

Day 2. Travel to Chefchaouen

(stopping in Rabat, the current Imperial City)

*Travel time is 1 hour to Rabat and approximately 4 hours from Rabat to Chefchaouen

You will travel along the Atlantic coastline to Rabat, Morocco’s political and administrative capital, where the modern seamlessly intertwines with historic grandeur. Rabat invites you to explore its rich cultural heritage, architectural marvels, and tranquil ambiance that defines this coastal gem.

Key attractions:

• Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site:  where blue and white houses offer panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
• Hassan Tower: You can spend time in the area surrounding this landmark, constructed in the 12th century, where your guide will tell you the history of this Tower.
• Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the final resting place for the late Mohammed V and his two sons, King Hassan II and Prince Abdullah.
• Chellah: You will see the ancient Roman and medieval ruins of Chellah, a fortified Muslim necropolis, and an ancient archeological site dating back to the first millennium BC, surrounded by lush gardens and a tranquil atmosphere, offering a serene escape from the city.

Arrive to Chefchaouen. 

Day 3. Chefchaouen

Founded in 1471, it is an enchanting town nestled in the Rif Mountains, where every corner is painted in shades of blue, creating a serene and magical atmosphere. Known as the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco, Chefchaouen beckons travelers with its distinctive architecture, vibrant markets, and tranquility permeating every cobblestone street.

• Spanish Mosque

Option One:  

You can spend the day touring the town, walking through the labyrinthine streets where every corner is painted in shades of blue, creating a serene and magical atmosphere.  You can capture the beauty of Chefchaouen through your lens. The play of light and shadow on the blue walls and the stunning natural surroundings make it a photographer’s paradise.  You can immerse yourself in the lively markets with vibrant textiles, handmade crafts, and local produce. Perhaps you’d like to take a short hike to the Spanish Mosque, perched on a nearby hill, to witness a panoramic view of the town, especially beautiful at sunset.

Option Two:

Hike in nearby Talassemtane National Park: Akchour, Chefchouen.  We will take you to Akchour by vehicle. Then, you would walk/hike through the lush vegetation, passing by gorgeous little waterfalls and enjoying stops to relax while having food along the way, soaking your feet in the water, and possibly swimming. Going to the top, you will see the beautiful Akchour waterfalls. You can set the pace that suits your group.  A trip to the top to see the big waterfall would take about 2 hours.  The group has the option to go only partway or to the top but would need to agree and stay together.

Return to Chefchaouen for dinner and some time to see the town.

Day 4: Travel to Fes (previous Imperial City)

Travel time from Chefchaouen to Fes: approximately 4.5 hours 

Fes is the second largest city in Morocco.  It is vibrant and noisy and is considered Morocco’s spiritual and cultural heart.   We will take you on a guided tour through the old city, Fes el Bali (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), which will take your culture and history tour back to the Middle Ages.  It is one of the most extensive pedestrian-only alleys in the world.  Fes is also home to The University of al-Quarawiyyin, considered the oldest university in the world, and it still operates today.

Key Attractions:

• Fes el-Bali (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is an enchanting labyrinth of alleys and bustling markets. 
• Chouara Tannery: one of the oldest tanneries in the world, dating back to the 11th century
• High-quality leather products
• Ruga businesses: where you will see many individually created Carpets, including a variety of Berber techniques
• Pottery Co-Op (included in the tour), where you will see the process of creating exquisite mosaics and pottery from beginning to end).

Day 5.   Day trip to Meknes (Imperial City in the 17th century) and Volubilis

(the night will be spent in Fes)

Travel time is approximately 1.5 hours

Meknes (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is one of Morocco’s 4  Imperial Cities and was once the capital of Morocco. It is surrounded by impressive high walls and very large doorways. 

Key Attractions:

• Medina (a UNESCO World Heritage Site)
• The grandeur of the Spanish and Moorish architecture and doors (including the grand Bab Mansour gate)
• Moulay Ismail Mausoleum
• Historical significance evident in the well-preserved monuments and palaces

 Volubilis (a 2000-year-old UNESCO World Heritage Site) was once a Roman Capital. The town has many beautiful mosaics and Roman pillars, providing excellent photo opportunities. You will be taken on a private tour. 

Key Attractions: 

• Roman ruins include many beautiful mosaics with ancient mythical representations.

Day 6.   Travel to Marrakech

(approximate travel time is 6 hours)

Marrakech, just west of the Atlas Mountains, spectacularly captures Morocco’s history and dynamic essence.

Key Attractions:

• Jemaa el Fnaa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site): historical and magical Medina Quarter where you will be surrounded by snake charmers, acrobats, monkeys, many culinary options, performers, and a variety of vendors, and see the Koutoubia Mosque.
• Jardin Majorelle, including plants from 5 continents  (included in the price of the tour)
• Berber Museum (*optional).
• Yves Saint Laurent Museum (*optional) 
• Museums, mosques, riads, and palaces.  Marrakech is an excellent place for shopping as there are 3000+ stalls with vendors you can haggle with as you decide what to bring home for your memories.

We will take you on a tour of Jemaa el-Fnaa, the UNESCO World Heritage Medina.

Day 7.  Marrakech

Monuments tour.

Tour of Jardin Majorelle, including plants from 5 continents

Days 9. Agafay Desert

Key Attractions:

• Overnight stay in luxury tents (including private bathrooms)

Day 10/11: Essaouira (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

Essaouira’s historic and lively fishing town is located on the Atlantic Ocean. We will take you on a tour of the Portuguese ramparts and fortifications through the narrow streets, where you will be brought back in time while enjoying the shops and art galleries and taking in the scents of polished Thuya wood (that grows only in North Africa) filling the air.

• Fishing pier: featuring the iconic blue boats and the ability to purchase fresh catch of the day
• Art galleries
• Seeing the Thuya wood artisans at work (and the opportunity to purchase)
• Enjoy the large beach filled with kite surfers from all over the world.

Day 12. Travel to Casablanca
