When you arrive for your Morocco Culture and History Tour, you’ll find yourself in fabled Casablanca, with its distinctive art deco architecture is the largest city and the business center of Morocco. We will tour the gorgeous Hassan II Mosque, capable of welcoming 105,000 worshipers and filled with breathtaking mosaic work everywhere you look. From there we will walk along the Atlantic beach through the area known as La Corniche, home to many luxurious hotels and restaurants. If time allows, we will include lunch or dinner at Rick’s Cafe, from the classic movie, ‘Casablanca’. complete with live entertainment and an ambiance that will allow you to absorb the enchanting Moroccan magic represented in the movie.
Founded in 1471, Chefchaouen is referred to as ‘The Blue City’. Everywhere you look you will find magnificent opportunities to take photos! Ideas for you to consider while here are taking a half hour hike up to the Spanish Mosque that offers a breathtaking view of the city. There is an enchanting medina to explore filled with restaurants and vendors where you can find treasures like jewelry, lamps, baskets and lamps.
There are many opportunities for hiking in the Rif Mountains including Akchour Falls and exploring the deepest cave in Africa, the Toghobeit Cave.
Fes is the second largest city in Morocco. It is vibrant and noisy and considered the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco. It is home to one of the oldest tanneries in the world, dating back to the 11th century. We can bring you to see the best views overlooking the dye pits and take you on a guided tour through the old city known as Fes el Bali (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) which will take your culture and history tour back in time to the Middle Ages. It is one of the largest pedestrian only areas in the world. Fes is also home to The University of al-Quarawiyyin, considered by some to be the oldest University in the world and is still operating today.
Meknes is one of Morocco’s 4 Imperial Cities and was once the capital of Morocco. It is surrounded by impressive high walls and very large doorways. We can take you on a tour around the ruins through the olive groves to the archeological site of Volubilis, which was once a Roman Capital. The town is filled with many beautiful mosaics, Roman ruins, providing great photo opportunities.
Marrakech just west of the Atlas Mountains, captures the history and dynamic essence of Morocco in a spectacular way. We can take you through one of the best known squares Jemaa el Fnaa where you’ll be surrounded by snake charmers, acrobats, and magicians as well as a wide variety of vendors. The medina quarter is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The city is filled with museums, mosques, riads, and palaces. This is a great place for shopping as there are 3000+ stalls with vendors you can haggle with as you decide what to bring home for your memories. We would love to take you to the Majorelle Garden, including plants from 5 continents and home to the Berber Museum.
We could take you to the nearby Atlas Mountains including a trip to the impressive Ouzoud Falls where we might see some monkeys too. Another option is going on a desert excursion near Marrakech complete with camels or 4×4’s. Or you could have a free day to explore on your own.
The old fishing town of Essaouira is located on the Atlantic Ocean. You might enjoy taking a walking tour through the narrow streets where you will be brought back in time while you enjoy the shops and art galleries and take in the scents of polished Thuya wood filling the air. Jimi Hendrix used to hang out here in the 60’s and Orson Welles was a frequent visitor too. Fun options include riding horses on the beach or 4×4’s on the dunes. And we definitely want to show you the goats in the Argon trees.
